The French were being pressed hard in the centre of their line. On the Allied left Woods attacks were reaping their rewards, the Maison du Roi and the Franco-Bavarian reserve was finally broken.

Over on the Allied right, Withers force was making headway against the French desperately trying to hold the Sars wood., the reserve had been committed here and the British Hanoverian force was gaining ground turn by turn.

So with the flanks retiring on the centre the British force of Orkney along with Lottum pressed home their attacks.

The French command began to look to withdraw. The result of the battle was an Allied vixctory, although, that said it was certainly far from decisive. The Anglo-Allied forces had fought long and hard to break the mounted troops on the flanks and the remaining Allied horse was in no condition to harry the enemy from the field.

It was felt that had this been a campaign battle the French would have lived to fight another day. The Allied troops in the Sars wood, in front of Blairon Farm and in front of the redoubts of the centre had suffered horribly! The morale of the troops had kept them in the fight though and with the reserve of the French army all but exhausted the Raw French troops began to look to their rear.
