Please note I will not be hosting any Public events from 31st January 2023. Nothing too drastic from our side, just need a break.

I’ll be providing updates when we’re back, here and on my social media platforms.

Thank you for all the custom and friendship this has brought me to date.

I look forward to seeing you all again soon, both new and old customers.

Well as I mentioned earlier, the technicl issue may well be resolved.

The French advance at Salamanca

Please bear with me, normal service will resume asap.

Thanks for your patience.

Here are a few views of the assault by Graebners SS Recon across the Arnhem bridge, the fighting for Arnhem was intense, both sides contesting every inch of ground.

Opening assault

The assault across the bridge picks up pace.

The early attempts to cross the bridge were thwarted somewhat by the Paras deploying a makeshift minefield, the SS Recon needed skill checks to traverse, the plucky commander of Graebners troops had mixed results with this.

Halftracks

The armoured assault picks up pace.

The allied troops sent from the landing zone attempted to stop the recon getting across, but it was a hefty task, what with Spindler beginning to make his presence felt the other side of Oosterbeek and Arnhem, troops destined for Arnhem were getting sucked into the fighting for Oosterbeek.

Stugs block the way.

The Stug detachment made it down to the river with a battalion of infantry to block the route for any support.

The commander of Spindlers forces is a wiley ol’ gamer and managed to successfully block the route to the bridge with crossfire coming from Panthers and Stugs. The paras from the 4th Parachute brigade struggled against these goliaths, their 6 pdrs having to be moved from the drop zone to Oosterbeek. The 17pdrs were devoid of infantry support in Oosterbeek after successful German infantry assaults and at the cost of only one stug the battery was overrun allowing the push to the river to succeed for the German forces.

Another angle on the assault

Graebner was finding it harder to get past the burning vehicles, still Frostie and his boys hung on.

The bridge clears.

The bridge clears and the SS Recon push on, still more pain was to come as the Paras 6pounder battery opened up.

The fight really picked up a pace, the Polish Para brigade was imminent it appeared, but nothing had gone to plan so far, so would they turn up in time or indeed had their landing zone been overrun already?

The fight was by no means over, the commander of the 2nd Battalion, 1st Parachute Brigade was determined to hold on…….nothing was going to move him!

Well guys here are some more juicy images of the recent Arnhem game.

Arnhem high street.

Arnhem high street, Paras seeking refuge in the buildings, preparing for the expected onslaught.

The figures we use are mostly SHQ and FAA, however in recent searches I found a really nice set of models from a Company C-P Models, who also stock TQD Castings, well the Paras are absolutely lovely models. I’ll be running a spot light on these early next week.

TQD Paras

Paras from the TQD Castings range, the figure at the back right is an SHQ Miniatures airbourne artilleryman.

I mangaged to build some great looking engineer battalions, Glider Pilot battalions along with Piat teams using this range from TQD Castings.

Flammpanzers

Flammpanzers from Knaust’s Kampfgruppe.

These proved to be quite a thorn in the side of the air landing brigade, after taking out the first three these last two proved near impossible to stop. The 6pdr anti-tank guns failed to stop them and were then overrun by the tanks infantry support. These two chased the Air landing and 4th Para all the way to Oosterbeek.

I plan to run a spotlight on the day with the Reigate club as well, they used Rapid Fire rules and all their own figures, they have a very impressive collection between the participants, managing to fill the table from one end to the other more on that later. In the meantim check out the You tube “Rapid Fire at the WHC” it’s very entertaining.

I thought I’d show some of our town piccies along with a bit more of the German kit.

Outskirts of Arnhem

German infantry moving into the suburbs of Arnhem.

We had the equivalent of seventeen battalions of German infantry around Arnhem the landing zone and Oosterbeek, that’s not counting the SS recon and armoured units. The British had the equivalent of fourteen, a very tough fight all in all.

Local Air support

German air cover move in to ensure the British Air get nowhere near the German armour.

Our air combat rules ensured that only some of the British air support sorties got through.

Arnhem defence

Defence in depth, the 6pdr anti-tank guns are revealed from ambush

The Reigate club are here at the Wargames Holiday Centre en masse, they want to run out some of their own figures and terrain and introduce me to the “Rapid Fire” ruleset, more on that later.

Arnhem was played out here at the Wargames Holiday Centre this last weekend and what a game. The British Paras and Air Landing put up a real stiff resistance, holding until relieved, did they make it? Did XXX Corps arrive in time or was it a push over for the German forces?

C.A.P.

Typhoons make it to the Air Landing Zone, hoping to protect them from the marauding Focke Wulf patrols.

Graebner's heavies

Graebner’s heavy support attempting to support the crossing over the bridge.
